Why Is My Bird So Messy? Cut Food Waste with the Bainbridge Feeder

Why Is My Bird So Messy? Cut Food Waste with the Bainbridge Feeder

Say goodbye to messy floors with these tips!

Cleaning up wasted seed and pellets every day gets old fast. The Bainbridge Mess Free Feeder keeps food inside the feeder and off your floor, so you can spend more time enjoying your bird and less time sweeping. Use this simple guide to help your bird feel comfortable with the new feeder.

Start with your bird’s favourite treats

Place a small handful of irresistible snacks like millet, sunflower seeds, or a slice of apple in the feeder first. Once your bird hops over for the treat, add their regular food. Positive experience equals quick acceptance.

Make it easy to reach

Hang the feeder beside a perch, toy, or existing food bowl your bird already loves. If it goes ignored after a day or two, move it to another spot. Easy access is the goal.

  • Outside the cage: This frees up extra space inside, yet use this option only if the cage stays indoors and out of reach of children or pets that could accidentally knock the feeder off.
  • Inside the cage: A better choice for larger parrots, as it’s harder for them to unhook. Screw the hooks into the back of the feeder, then press on the acrylic spacer so the feeder sits level and secure.

What is the Tray Insert for Large?

This removable tray is an optional accessory sized to fit the large No Mess Feeder. It slides out smoothly, so you can top it up with your bird’s food in seconds, especially handy when serving fresh fruit or veggies.

FAQ

How do I clean the feeder?

Detach, wash in warm water with mild bird-safe detergent like F10 (The wipes are really handy as well), rinse well and air-dry before refilling. It is not dishwasher-safe or watertight.

Can I use it for fresh foods?

Yes, seeds, pellets, sprouts, fruit, veggies and dry lorikeet mix all work. Do not fill with water as the feeder is not watertight, and you could damage it.

Which size should I buy?

  • Small – Budgies, Cockatiels, Conures, Ringnecks, Finches, Quakers, Lovebirds, Parrotlets, Rainbow Lorikeets.
  • Large – Amazons, African Greys, Eclectus, Galahs, Corellas, Crimson Rosellas, Princess Parrots, Doves, Pigeons, Alexandrines, Hahns and other small macaws.

My bird hates it. What next?

Refresh the treats, move it next to their favourite perch and give it time. Most birds accept it within a week.

Enjoy a tidier cage

With a little patience, your bird will learn that the Bainbridge Mess Free Feeder means easy food and no fuss. You’ll see cleaner floors, less wasted food, and quicker daily maintenance.
