Budgies do best on a mix of a high-quality seed blend, fresh vegetables and a good quality pellet. Seed alone shortens lifespan significantly, so variety matters more than any single food.

Around 5–10 years on average, though budgies fed a proper varied diet and given good care regularly reach 15+ years. Diet is the single biggest lever owners have over lifespan.

Wider is better than taller — budgies fly horizontally rather than climbing vertically. Include at least two to three perches of varying width, and rotate toys to prevent boredom.
